The materials are deliberately plain: bamboo poles, elastic bands, cloths, some LED lighting. What you make with them is not. A giant marble run, a triumphal arch or a castle of your own, often built around a theme that is alive in your organisation, so the structure is about something. Larger groups work in sub-teams, each on a module that is later linked to the rest. Added difficulty factors and special effects keep the task moving.
Bamboo and elastic bands call for hands. The work is physical and visible, so everyone can see where it slows down and where help is needed. Leadership, timing and deadlines do not sort themselves out. With experienced facilitators it can stay pure enjoyment, or become the occasion to look at the group’s own processes.
